Kawasaki Z650 B1
The build date of this bike is June 1976 which has been certified by the Kawasaki Triples Club. This makes it a very early model with a frame and engine number around the 1600 mark.
It started life in Miami and was badged as a Z650 rather than KZ, probably due to it being so early in the production run. It was imported by Dave Orritt, a well-known Kawasaki expert and writer, in 2016, with approximately 24,000 miles on the clock. Given the complete nature of the bike and overall good condition this seemed to be accurate. (The mileage is now 27,000)
The current owner purchased it in the same year and after using it ‘as it was’ for a couple of years, had a rolling program of improvement work carried out. Firstly, the head and barrels were removed, stripped and inspected, with all new seals and gaskets fitted and the valves reground. At this time, the sump was removed cleaned and a new gasket fitted. The overall condition of these parts was found to be very good, which again pointed to the mileage probably being accurate. Last year the fork leg oil seals and dust caps were replaced and the carbs were stripped, cleaned and rebuilt with new choke plungers. All the work was completed by a Kawasaki specialist with a long history of restorations and special builds who has an excellent reputation. The bike is completely original, including paint and chrome, with the only parts replaced being the seat cover, chain guard and grab handles (pattern parts from Zpower).
This is a good looking bike which has been regularly used by the owner and, whilst not ‘immaculate’, another would be quite difficult to find of this age, condition and degree of originality. It is a reluctant sale - only because of a change in personal circumstances.
The motorcycle is located in Flixton Manchester
